The five steps

  1. Get your price. Enter the pickup and delivery ZIP codes, the vehicle, the first day it is available, and open or enclosed transport. You see one all-in figure. It is free and commits you to nothing.
  2. Book. Confirm the details and give us the two addresses and a contact person at each end. We tell you what is due and when before you commit.
  3. A carrier is assigned. We place your vehicle with a licensed, insured carrier that is running your route, and we let you know the pickup window.
  4. Pickup. The driver calls ahead, inspects the vehicle with you, records its condition, and loads it.
  5. Delivery. The driver calls again before arriving. You check the vehicle against the pickup report, sign, and take the keys.

Who does what

Razorback Auto Transport is the broker. We price the shipment, book it, choose the carrier, and stay your point of contact until the vehicle is delivered. Before a carrier gets your job we check its operating authority, insurance, and safety record.

The carrier owns the truck. Its driver loads your vehicle, hauls it, and unloads it, and its cargo insurance covers the vehicle while it is on the trailer.

You give us accurate details, get the vehicle ready, keep your phone on, and make sure an adult is there to hand it over and to receive it.

How long each part takes

A shipment has two clocks. The first is the time it takes to get a truck to you, which is usually a few days. It is shorter near major interstates and longer in rural areas. The second is transit time, which depends mostly on distance.

Typical transit time by distance
DistanceTypical time on the truck
Up to 250 miles1 to 2 days
250 to 600 miles2 to 4 days
600 to 1,000 miles3 to 5 days
1,000 to 1,500 miles4 to 6 days
1,500 to 2,000 miles5 to 8 days
More than 2,000 miles7 to 10 days

These are typical ranges, not guarantees. A truck carries several vehicles and makes other stops, and weather and traffic affect every trip.

Why you get a window instead of an appointment

A car hauler’s day depends on every stop before yours. A customer who is late, a closed road, or a slow scale line pushes everything back. So carriers commit to a pickup window of a few days and then narrow it as they get close. The driver’s phone call, usually the day before and again an hour or two out, is your real appointment.

What you need on pickup day

  • The vehicle, clean enough to inspect, with about a quarter tank of fuel
  • One working key
  • An adult to meet the driver and sign
  • Your own photos of each side, the roof, and the odometer
  • A phone that is switched on

The preparation checklist covers the rest.

The paperwork

There is one document that matters: the bill of lading. It doubles as the inspection report. The driver marks existing scratches and dents on it at pickup, both of you sign, and the same form is checked and signed again at delivery. Keep your copy.

Carriers do not normally need the title or registration. The person handing over the vehicle only needs the key and the owner’s permission.

Common questions

Do I have to be there in person?

Someone does, at both ends, but it does not have to be you. Any adult you name can release or receive the vehicle and sign the report.

What if my dates change after I book?

Tell us as soon as you know. A change made before a carrier is assigned is usually easy. After that we work it out with the driver.

Will I know where my car is?

You get updates when the vehicle is dispatched, picked up, and delivered, and you can call for a status check at any point in between.

When do I pay?

Payment terms are confirmed when you book. You will know exactly what is due and when before you commit to anything.
